Family photos in Bariloche: places, seasons and park rules that work with children

How to plan family photos in Bariloche: child-friendly spots, the Campanario chairlift, Nahuel Huapi park fees and drone rules, snow on Cerro Catedral and the best light by month.

A family photo session in Bariloche is 30 minutes of portraits by Lago Nahuel Huapi or on a viewpoint above it, planned around the things that decide a day with children: how far they have to walk, when they nap, and what the light is doing at that hour. Most of the scenery belongs to the Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, which has its own fees and rules, and the most famous viewpoint is reached by chairlift. This guide puts those pieces in order.

The lakeshore

The pebble beaches along the Circuito Chico are where most of our family sessions happen. There is no climb, the water keeps small children busy, and a 30-minute session can stop for a snack without losing the light. On windy days we move to a sheltered bay and use the trees as a backdrop.

Cerro Campanario

The Cerro Campanario chairlift runs from 9:00 to a last ascent at 17:00 and closes at 18:00. At the time of checking the general fare was ARS 30,000 and the fare for children aged 5 to 12 with their parents ARS 15,000, and children under 4 ride free with an adult. Pets and drones are not allowed. A summit session is therefore an afternoon plan: the lift closes long before a summer sunset, but the view over Lago Nahuel Huapi and Lago Perito Moreno is lit from the side in the mid-afternoon.

Inside the national park

Much of what surrounds the city is the Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi. The park charges entry at three points around Bariloche: the Mascardi access on the road to Cerro Tronador, Puerto Pañuelo for the boats to Isla Victoria, the Bosque de Arrayanes and Puerto Blest, and the entrance to the Quetrihué peninsula. The general fare was ARS 35,000 at the time of checking, children up to 6 enter free, and the second day costs half. The Circuito Chico lakeshore spots we use most are reached without passing those points.

Snow sessions on Cerro Catedral

Families who come for the ski holidays often want one photo in the snow. Cerro Catedral is a concession with its own rules for photographers: a working photographer on the mountain needs the resort's ski-photographer pass, which in turn requires a municipal commercial licence and compulsory accident and liability insurance. The rules forbid stopping to photograph at lift unloading zones, bottlenecks or fast runs, require drones to have the company's prior express authorisation, and make the photographer responsible for image consent, especially for children. We plan snow sessions at the base area or on a quiet, open slope, away from the lifts, and confirm the pass for your date before booking.

Drones over the lakes

A family video from the air is a common request in Bariloche, and the answer depends on where. The APN's drone regulation bans recreational flights in every national park and requires prior express authorisation for any project, flown in daylight and at least 30 metres horizontally and 10 metres vertically from people outside the crew. Campanario bans drones outright. We fly only where the place and the permission are clear, and the drone guide explains the national rules.

Light and season

The US Naval Observatory gives these times for Bariloche (UTC−3) on the 15th of the month in 2026:

January06:3121:18Sunset after bedtime; plan the late afternoon
March07:4320:05Golden hour before dinner
June09:0918:22A sunrise session after breakfast
September07:4619:35Spring light, snow still on the peaks
December06:0721:14Long evenings, busy beaches

Winter is the friendliest season for small children's schedules: the sun rises after 9:00 in June, so the soft morning light comes after breakfast, and it sets before 18:30. Summer is the opposite, with sunset past 21:00, so we photograph young children in the late afternoon instead of at sunset.

Autumn is our favourite season for families. Bariloche's tourism office opens its autumn season on 21 March and sells it on the colours of the forest; in 2026 Easter fell on 2 to 5 April, with the Fiesta Nacional del Chocolate in town. Winter brings the ski crowds, and the busiest weeks follow the winter school holidays, whose dates each Argentine province sets every year — check them before you fix your dates, because they decide how full the viewpoints and the lifts will be.

Choosing the session

Family$14030 minutes, 20 edited photos within 7 days
Vacation$11030 minutes, a quick portrait on a travel day
Maternity$13030 minutes, by the lake or in the forest
Couple$12030 minutes for the parents alone

Thirty minutes is the right length for children under six; we book older children and grandparents into the same 30 minutes with two locations close together. A proposal on the same trip has its own guide: proposal spots in Bariloche and Patagonia.
