The town is compact and walkable, which suits short sessions. The costanera runs along the lake with a beach, water sports and cafés. The former building of the park Intendencia stands opposite the Plaza San Martín on calle Emilio Frey and now houses the park's information centre and museum, and the Museo Primeros Pobladores occupies a timber building with a pitched roof in the style of the 1930s. Beyond town, the municipal tourism office lists day circuits to Lago Lolog and Lago Curruhué, to Yuco, Nonthué and Hua Hum, and to Lago Huechulafquen at the foot of Volcán Lanín.
Leaving town usually means entering the park. The APN charges a daily access fee in Lanín — ARS 35,000 general, ARS 15,000 for Argentine nationals and ARS 8,000 for Neuquén residents from 1 June 2026 — and its 2021 drone regulation bans recreational flights in every national park and requires prior authorization for any project that flies one. Private land inside the park and its reserve is built under APN rules of its own, which matter to anyone photographing a property for sale.
Most clients are families on holiday, couples, and small weddings at the lodges and estancias around the lake, plus owners listing a house or a lot near town. Each lodge sets its own rule for outside photographers, which is confirmed in writing before the date.
