Drone wedding coverage
Drone wedding coverage in Argentina is an add-on to wedding photography or wedding videography in which a separate pilot flies for 180 minutes of the day, priced from $500 for 40 edited aerial photos and a 2- to 3-minute aerial film delivered within 3 weeks. It does not replace the photographer or the videographer: it adds the shots only height can give, such as a ceremony on a lawn above Lago Nahuel Huapi, the guests arriving down an avenue of trees at an estancia in San Antonio de Areco, or the couple walking between vines in Mendoza with the Andes behind them.

Adding a drone to a wedding day in Argentina

The 180 minutes are placed with care, because the rules shape the day. RAAC Part 101, in force since Resolución ANAC 550/2025, lets a drone pass over a person only if that person takes part in the flight or has consented, and Part 100 forbids flying over any crowd — and a seated ceremony of a hundred guests is one. So the ceremony is filmed from the side and from height, from a take-off spot the venue agrees to, rather than straight down over the rows. The texts in force set no separate night rule for the Open category, but the drone has to stay in the pilot’s direct sight, and an Argentine wedding party is a packed dance floor that runs into the early morning; the drone time is planned in daylight, around the ceremony, the arrivals and the portraits in the last light, and the party is left to the cameras on the ground.
Location is checked before you book, not on the day. An Open-category drone may not fly inside an aerodrome control zone, is held to 43 m within 5 km of a runway threshold in controlled airspace, and needs authorisation from the air navigation provider to climb above 100 ft inside a terminal control area or an aerodrome traffic zone; some hotels and estancias sit close enough to an airport or airstrip for that to matter. Venues add their own conditions on top: where the pilot may take off, whether the drone may fly during the vows, and whether an outside operator must be registered with the planner in advance. A ceremony inside a national park needs the Administración de Parques Nacionales, which authorises drones only case by case and has banned them at small events in the Área Cataratas of Parque Nacional Iguazú except by extraordinary authorisation (Resolución APN 460/2025).
The pilot carries third-party liability insurance and works in Argentina. Wind is the open risk: a wedding date cannot move for the weather, and a westerly over the Patagonian lakes or a zonda afternoon in Mendoza can ground a drone under a clear sky. What happens to the drone coverage if it cannot fly is written into the agreement before booking. For aerial work on a day without a wedding, drone photo and video is the shorter, stand-alone session.
Questions about drone wedding coverage
Can drone wedding coverage be booked on its own?
Drone wedding coverage is an add-on to wedding photography or wedding videography, not a replacement for either: a separate pilot flies for 180 minutes of the day and delivers 40 edited aerial photos and a 2- to 3-minute aerial film within 3 weeks. The pilot works to the same timeline as the photographer and the videographer, so the three of them plan the ceremony, the arrival at the estancia or bodega and the portraits together.
Will a wedding drone fly over our guests?
A wedding drone in Argentina does not fly over the guests. RAAC Part 101 allows a drone over a person only if that person takes part in the flight or has consented, and Part 100 forbids flying over any crowd, which is what a seated ceremony of a hundred people is. Drone wedding coverage therefore films the ceremony from the side and from height, launched from a spot the venue agrees to, well away from the aisle.
Can the drone film the party after dark?
The RAAC texts in force set no separate night rule for the Open category, but a drone still has to stay in the pilot’s direct sight and away from crowds, and an Argentine wedding party is a crowded dance floor that runs late into the night. Drone wedding coverage is therefore planned in daylight, around the ceremony, the arrival of the guests and the couple portraits in the last light, and the party is left to the cameras on the ground.
Can a drone fly at a wedding venue near an airport?
RAAC Part 101 keeps an Open-category drone out of every aerodrome control zone (CTR), and Part 100 holds it to 43 m within 5 km of a runway threshold in controlled airspace, with authorisation from the air navigation provider needed above 100 ft inside a terminal area or an aerodrome traffic zone. The pilot checks the distance from your estancia, hotel or bodega to every airport and airstrip before you book drone wedding coverage.
What if wind grounds the drone on our wedding day?
A wedding date cannot move for the weather, and Patagonian or Andean wind can ground a drone on a clear afternoon. What happens if drone wedding coverage cannot fly, including whether any part of it is replaced or repaid, is written into the agreement before booking, so the answer is settled long before the day rather than argued on it.
