Proposal video

A proposal video in Argentina is a marriage proposal filmed from a hidden position and edited into a 2- to 3-minute film, priced from $380 for 90 minutes on location and delivered within 2 weeks. The film keeps what photographs cannot: the words, the pause before the answer, the laugh or the tears, and the minutes either side of the moment. Popular settings include a plaza or a rose garden in Buenos Aires, a viewpoint over Lago Nahuel Huapi near Bariloche, a row of vines in Mendoza and the waterfront at Ushuaia; each one is planned for where your partner will stand and where the camera can hide.

Filming the question without giving it away

Hiding is the craft. The videographer films from 20 to 40 m away with a long lens, from a spot chosen during a scouting visit or on a map before the day, and you carry a small wireless microphone in a pocket so the words are recorded even though the camera is far away. The 90 minutes start before your partner arrives, so the camera is set and the sound tested, and they leave room for a late taxi or a lunch that runs over. You stay in touch by message throughout, with one code word for “on our way” and another for “change of plan”.

Some settings come with rules. Filming for hire inside an Argentine national park — Iguazú, Los Glaciares, Nahuel Huapi — falls under the Administración de Parques Nacionales, whose filming rules ask for a written request at least 20 business days ahead, so a proposal there is booked early or moved just outside the park boundary. Restaurants, hotels and private gardens set their own rules on cameras, and any passer-by who ends up recognisable in the film is either framed out or asked for consent, as article 53 of the Código Civil y Comercial requires for anyone’s image.

A proposal video and proposal photography are separate bookings that work well together: the photographer and the videographer follow the same hiding plan, one with a long lens for stills and the other rolling film, and the minutes after the answer become a short couple portrait for both. If the proposal is part of a longer trip — Buenos Aires, then Mendoza, then Patagonia — the film can be shot wherever the moment falls, and the edit, with licensed music and the recorded sound of the question, is delivered within the same 2 weeks.

Questions about proposal video

How does a proposal videographer stay hidden?

A proposal video in Argentina is filmed from 20 to 40 m away with a long lens, from a spot chosen during a scouting visit or on a map before the day: a bench across a plaza in Buenos Aires, a rock above a lake in Bariloche, the end of a row of vines in Mendoza. You carry a small wireless microphone in a jacket pocket, so the words are heard even though the camera is far away.

What if my partner arrives late or the plan changes?

The 90 minutes of a proposal video include the setup before your partner arrives and room for a late taxi or a long lunch. You and the videographer stay in touch by message throughout, with a code word for “we are on our way” and another for “change of plan”, and the camera keeps rolling from the moment you appear.

Can a proposal video be filmed at Iguazú Falls or another national park?

Filming for hire inside an Argentine national park falls under the rules of the Administración de Parques Nacionales (APN), which ask for a written request at least 20 business days before the shoot. A proposal video in Iguazú, Los Glaciares or Nahuel Huapi is therefore booked early, or moved just outside the park boundary, where the same water, ice or lake is still in the frame.

Is a proposal video the same as proposal photography?

A proposal video records the moment in sound and motion and is delivered as a 2- to 3-minute film within 2 weeks; proposal photography produces still images. Many couples book both: the photographer and the videographer work from the same hiding plan, one with a long lens for stills and the other for film, and the session that follows becomes a short couple portrait.
